Understand and integrate fundamental principles, including:

  1. development and evolution of modern ocean/earth system
  2. distribution, diversity and abundance of marine life, and special adaptations to ocean environment
  3. impact of ocean circulation on climate, atmosphere, biosphere
  4. biogeochemical cycles, ocean productivity
  5. processes at terrestrial-marine interface and in the coastal zone
  6. anthropogenic impacts and management of ocean resources

  7. Utilize the scientific method to answer questions and investigate the natural world

  8. Successfully communicate scientific information through presentations and writing

  9. Interpret and discuss scientific data, critically evaluate published scientific literature

  10. Experience the marine environment in field, research or internship opportunities

  11. Explain and evaluate major issues that are facing the modern marine environment
