Bio

Research interests: Streptococcus iniae is a Gram-positive, zoonotic bacterium known to infect a wide variety of farmed and wild fish species worldwide. The high mortality rates in fish cause significant economic losses in the aquaculture industry and can also have environmental and cultural impacts when causing disease in wild fish. My research is focused on characterizing a diverse set of S. iniae isolates genetically and phenotypically to better understand the coalescing factors contributing to environmental persistence and to pathogenesis in piscine and mammalian hosts.
