University vs. Non-University Rates
Apply to Use BML or BMR Resources
Use this system to apply for Housing, Laboratory or Reserve resources.
- We recommend that you discuss your plans with the Reserve Research Coordinator, before application.
- Most Reserve users will also need to download and submit a signed Reserve Use Waiver.
- Also see Planning Research at BML/BMR
Per UC policy, all BML recharge rates are subject to a 36% Non-University Differential (NUD) assessment for non-University clients.
The NUD is a component of the University’s federally negotiated indirect cost rate and is applied to recover indirect costs incurred by BML when providing services to non-University users. It accounts for costs such as facilities maintenance, administration, and other operational expenses. Components not typically used by external clients—such as Library services and Sponsored Project Administration—are deducted from this rate.
Note: Non-UC researchers who hold a Research Associate (WOS) courtesy appointment at BML are not exempt from the NUD assessment.
