Announcing the new Director of the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute
We’re excited to share that Andrea C. Alfaro has been appointed the new director of the UC Davis Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute (CMSI), effective January 1, 2026.
Dr. Alfaro brings extensive experience in marine ecology and aquaculture, with a strong record of leadership on collaborative, interdisciplinary research projects around the world. She will also serve as director of the Bodega Marine Laboratory, CMSI’s core research and educational facility on the Sonoma Coast.
Her appointment marks an exciting new chapter for UC Davis coastal and marine science — one that will continue to advance innovation, collaboration, and sustainability from the UC Davis campus to the coast and beyond.
