Bodega Marine Laboratory Graduate Student Priya Shukla Wins UC Davis Dissertation Year Fellowship

Stress can test our limits to the utmost and, sometimes, it can push us to become more resilient than ever before. From the Bodega Marine Laboratory to the oyster flats of Tomales Bay, exploring how stress builds resilience has been at the heart of Priya Shukla’s research for the last several years. She is compiling a doctoral dissertation focused on how we might teach some species to tolerate warmer waters and in essence, “climate-proof” them against shifting temperatures.

Inaugural Cohort of Public Scholarship Graduate Fellows Announced

Public Scholarship and Engagement is proud to announce the inaugural cohort of UC Davis graduate students who were accepted into the competitive Public Scholars for the Future fellowship. This program, which launched in spring 2022 in partnership with UC Davis Graduate Studies, is designed to support doctoral students in developing community-engaged research with non-university partners.

CMSI Affiliates Hollis Jones (Ecology), Andrea Odell (Ecology), and Meghan Zulian (Earth and Planetary Sciences) are among the 11 doctoral candidates chosen.

Sea Grant and NOAA Fisheries Announce 2021 Joint Fellowship Program Awardees

Sea Grant and NOAA Fisheries recently announced the 2021 National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)-Sea Grant Joint Fellowship recipients. Five population and ecosystem dynamics fellowships and two marine resource economics fellowships were awarded through this national program.

The fellowships offered within this program are aimed at training the next generation of specialized experts in fisheries management. The program addresses the critical need for future fisheries scientists with expertise in stock assessment and related fields.

Dr. Levi Lewis receives the UC Davis Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Levi S. Lewis, a Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute affiliate who was recently awarded the UC Davis Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research. This award was created by the UC Davis Postdoctoral Scholars Association to recognize the vital role that postdoctoral scholars play in maintaining the reputation of excellent research at the University of California, Davis.
