- Department of Animal Science
I am a dedicated marine scientist and academic leader with more than two decades of experience advancing interdisciplinary research in marine ecology, aquaculture, and environmental resilience. As the Director of the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute (CMSI) and a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at the University of California, Davis, I lead strategic initiatives that foster collaboration across disciplines to address critical coastal and ocean challenges—including climate change impacts, sustainable aquaculture, aquatic disease dynamics, and ecosystem health.
My research bridges fundamental ecological science with practical applications by integrating physiological, metabolic, and immunological perspectives on how marine organisms respond to environmental stressors, such as thermal stress, hypoxia, and pathogen exposure. I am committed to enhancing sustainability through strong partnerships with academic collaborators, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and Indigenous communities.
