Bio

I am originally from the West Coast and most of my research uses species found in California, but my research group is now mainly based in Europe. Since 2020 I joined the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum in Frankfurt, Germany after working for many years as a professor at Queen's University Belfast, N. Ireland and as Director of the Queen's University Marine Laboratory in Portaferry. I have published over 100 journal articles on evolutionary biology, taxonomy, and sustainable fisheries. I represent the USA as a member of the United Nations Pool of Experts for the World Ocean Assessment and I am a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Mollusc Specialist Group.
